As Zoloft lawsuits continue to move forward, a new study has found evidence that warfarin patients who also take Zoloft and other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants may face an increased risk of bleeding, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to the study, which was presented at the American Heart Associations annual meeting, there was a 60 percent higher risk of major hemorrhage in patients that were taking SSRI antidepressants, like Zoloft, and warfarin, compared to those who werent taking an SSRI.*

The study looked at medical records from 13,000 atrial fibrillation patients, 9,200 of whom were being treated with warfarin. The warfarin patients were divided into three groups: those who were taking no antidepressants, patients who were taking SSRIs and patients who were taking older tricyclic antidepressants According to the study authors, there was no statistically significant difference in bleeding risk in those patients taking tricyclic antidepressants and warfarin.

This study is just further evidence of the serious risks that sometimes accompany the use of Zoloft and other SSRI antidepressants, says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The firm is currently offering free Zoloft lawsuit consultations to victims of birth defects and other alleged Zoloft side effects.

Zoloft Lawsuits

Zoloft is an SSRI antidepressant marketed by Pfizer Inc. that is used to treat major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and anxiety disorders. In April 2012, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation transferred all federally-filed Zoloft lawsuits to the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania as part of a consolidated litigation entitled In Re: Zoloft (Sertraline Hydrochloride) Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2342). All of the Zoloft lawsuits pending in the litigation involve allegations that the antidepressant causes birth defects in children when their mothers ingest the drug while pregnant. According to Pretrial Order No. 10, U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe has scheduled the Zoloft litigations next status conference for November 19th.**

Victims of alleged Zoloft side effects may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
