Prozac and weight gain/loss?
So my doctor recently suggested i try prozac for my anxiety and i’ve been searching the web about its effects on peoples weight and i’m getting contradicting information. Some people say prozac caused them to lose weight and some said it caused them to gain weight. i’m 16 5’3 and 150lbs, how do you think it’ll effect me?

do not worry about that part of it. Prozac wont cause weight gain or loss, thats related to the type of food you eat and the amount of exercise you do, end of story. So if you maintain a healthy diet and take regular exercise, weight will not be a problem on prozac.

It depends. If u currently overeat because of your depression, you’ll find you’ll lose weight because the depression is being controlled & therefore will have less binges. If u are eating less because u are depressed, then u may gain weight when u start eating more. Prozac can cause weight gain even without the change of diet but it’s very slight and nothing compared to antipsychotic medication like seroquel. Basically, a person of normal weight is not going to become obese because they are taking Prozac. Maybe slightly overweight, but that can be prevented if you follow a healthy diet & exercise regularly!

Note: if u really want to lose weight or have an overeating rather than undereating problem as a symptom of your depression, u must talk to your doc about Effexor! It is my fab drug ever tried I have finally been cured from my depression after 15 years and am losing weight like crazy on it!! It is the wonder drug!!

I have seen both weight gain and wight loss from SSRI’s (antidepressants). Most tend to slow the metabolism and increase appetite. However I have seen weight loss with Prozac (Fluoxotene), in fact there is an underground market for Prozac to lose weight. For some, Prozac seems to work as an appetite suppressant. It generally takes 4-6 weeks for the drug to work so you should notice relatively quickly how it affects you. It is a very effective prescription, I hope it works for you. Below I have included some information from the internet. Best wishes and take care…

eHow ~ Prozac is a drug commonly prescribed for major depressive disorder. It also may be used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder and bulimia. Prozac has several different side effects, and not all people will experience the same side effects. One of the side effects that can be experienced when taking Prozac is weight loss.
.How Common is Weight Loss?
Fewer than 2 percent of all people experience the side effect of weight loss while taking Prozac. Normally, the amount of weight loss someone experiences is only a few pounds. It is possible, however, to experience significant weight loss while taking Prozac.

If the weight loss is unwanted or if it is significant weight loss, consult with your family physician. It is not normal for someone to experience significant weight loss, and you may need medical advice or attention. Your doctor can prescribe other medications that can treat depression.
How Does Prozac Cause Weight Loss?
Some side effects of Prozac may cause weight loss, including loss of appetite, diarrhea or nausea. It is common for someone taking Prozac to experience these side effects and have minor weight loss as a result. After taking Prozac for a while, these side effects do seem to go away.

NOT true, I was on 20 mg Prozac, I had such a loss of appetite, I had no idea one of the side effects was weight loss. I lost a lot of weight. then I checked the side effects via the internet , after several months my appetite started to return, but never to normal.

I will try to keep it simple. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories to create energy. So the faster your metabolism, the faster you burn calories and the easier it is to lose unwanted weight. To boost your metabolism naturally you just need to eat the right foods.

You can sit down and literally eat a 1,000-calorie dinner and yet be absolutely starving just a few hours later and the reason is simple: Because your body didn’t get what it needed in those 1,000 calories so it sends signals to your brain telling you to ingest more calories and thus, the late-night cravings. That means that the surest way to end those late-night cravings and keep your weight loss goals on track is to eat a more balanced, nutritious diet that actually gives your body what it needs.

It’s VERY EASY to lose weight if you eat the right foods. Check out Dr. Charles Livingston’s video here: http://www.drcharleslivingston.tv – it will blow your mind.

Exercise or no exercise you won’t be able to lose the weight if you don’t cut your food intake but we all know that’s pretty hard, right? A good appetite suppressant can help you out big time but it has to be natural or you can get into serious heath problems.

I’ve lost 30 lbs in 2 months by using Miracle Garcinia Cambogia (FDA approved 100% natural). In my first month 20 and then 10 the second month. I was an emotional eater and these supplements changed my life. They act like an appetite suppressant so I didn’t feel like eating anymore. Not hungry anymore -> Lower calories -> Lose weight, simple as that. I did no exercises just 30 minutes walks 5 days a week.

It’s been 3 months since I lost the weight and I did not gain any pounds back, actually I lost another 2 lbs. If you want to take a look here is a website where you can find discounts: http://www.miraclegarciniapromo.com I got them 30% off from here. Hope this helps!
